Mamiya Press Super 23, dead stock in the box!

The camera comes with a Mamiya Sekor 100mm f/3.5 lens, a 6x9 medium format roll back, a right-angle focusing back, a tripod adaptor plate, and original boxes and manuals for all.

The Mamiya Press Super 23 is a modular medium-format rangefinder film camera introduced in 1967. Designed as a camera for press photographers, its notable features include interchangeable lenses, interchangeable film backs for different formats, and a rear bellows that allows for perspective control movements.

Specifications:

  • Medium format versatility: The Super 23 can use interchangeable roll film backs for various medium formats, including 6x9, 6x7, and 6x4.5, by using different backs.
  • Interchangeable lenses: The camera uses a unique Mamiya Press breech-lock lens mount and has a selection of dedicated Mamiya-Sekor lenses. The lenses feature a built-in leaf shutter, which can sync with a flash at all shutter speeds.
  • Rear bellows: A key feature distinguishing it from the later Mamiya Universal Press is its built-in rear bellows. This allows for limited tilt and shift movements for creative perspective control and selective focus.
  • Manual operation: The Super 23 is a completely manual camera without a built-in light meter. This requires methodical operation and can lead to accidental double exposures or wasted frames if the user forgets to advance the film or remove the dark slide.
  • Rangefinder focusing: The camera has a coupled rangefinder for focusing. It also features selectable bright-line frame lines in the viewfinder for 100mm, 150mm, and 250mm lenses, with parallax compensation. Wider lenses, such as the 65mm, require an external accessory viewfinder.
  • Heavy and bulky design: This camera is known for being large and heavy, with a weight of over 2 kg (4.4 lbs). The optional pistol grip improves handling, but it is best suited for slower, more deliberate studio or landscape shooting, especially when using the rear bellows.
