Ricoh Auto Half SE2 with original case and wrist strap!
The Ricoh Auto Half SE2 is a classic, battery-free half-frame film camera released around 1967. Like other half-frame cameras, it takes twice as many pictures on a standard roll of 35mm film by exposing half of the film frame for each shot. The SE2 model is a version of the Auto Half SE that includes a hot shoe for flash.
Specifications:
- Half-frame format: The camera shoots 18mm x 24mm portraits on 35mm film, resulting in roughly double the number of photos per roll compared to a standard 35mm camera.
- Clockwork motor: It features a unique spring-driven motor that automatically advances the film after each shot. A single wind of the knob can advance the film for 25 to 30 exposures.
- Battery-free exposure: The camera uses a selenium light meter, which is powered by a chemical reaction, to automatically set the aperture. A red dot appears in the viewfinder for underexposed shots.
- Fixed-focus lens: The camera has a fixed-focus 25mm f/2.8 lens, which is equivalent to about a 40mm lens on a full-frame camera. It has a minimum focus distance of about 250 cm (8.2 feet).
- Dual shutter speeds: It operates at an automatic speed of 1/125s for most situations and 1/30s when manually set for flash use.
- Self-timer: The SE2 model has a mechanical self-timer function.
- Hot shoe: Unlike its immediate predecessor, the SE, the SE2 includes a hot shoe for mounting an external flash.
