The Hasselblad 500C/M is a fully mechanical, modular 6×6 medium format single-lens reflex (SLR) film camera introduced in 1970 as the successor to the Hasselblad 500C. Its primary improvement was the addition of a user-interchangeable focusing screen, allowing photographers to quickly change screens without specialist tools.
Designed around Hasselblad's modular V-System, the 500C/M features interchangeable film backs, viewfinders, focusing screens, and Carl Zeiss C-series lenses, allowing the camera to be configured for a wide range of photographic applications. Film backs can also be swapped mid-roll, enabling photographers to change between different film stocks without finishing the roll. The camera produces 6×6cm negatives on 120 film, with the standard A12 film back providing 12 exposures per roll. It is entirely mechanical and does not require batteries for operation. Shutter speeds are controlled by the leaf shutter built into each lens, offering speeds from 1 second to 1/500 second plus Bulb, with flash synchronisation available at every shutter speed.
Manufactured in Sweden, the 500C/M became one of Hasselblad's longest-running models, remaining in production until 1994. Its robust mechanical construction, modular design, and compatibility with a wide range of Hasselblad V-System accessories have made it one of the most popular and enduring medium format film cameras ever produced.
