Canon 8x30 Binoculars with original Canon case!

The Canon 8x30 binocular is an iconic piece of vintage optical history. Produced by the Canon Camera Co. Inc. in Japan predominantly during the late 1950s, 1960s, and into the 1970s, it represents the era when Canon was establishing its global reputation for precise mechanical engineering and high-quality camera glass.

Specifications

  • Magnification (8x): Objects viewed through the lenses appear 8 times closer than with the naked eye. This is widely considered the ideal magnification for hand-held use because it provides enough zoom while keeping the image steady.
  • Objective Lens Size (30mm): The front lenses are 30mm in diameter. It is categorised as a "mid-size" binocular—lighter and more portable than heavy 42mm or 50mm field glasses, but vastly brighter than tiny pocket models.
  • Field of View (393 ft at 1,000 yards): Expressed as a mathematical angle, this is exactly a 7.5° field of view. A wide view like this makes finding targets, tracking flight patterns of birds, and scanning landscapes exceptionally easy.
  • Exit Pupil (3.75mm): Calculated by dividing the objective lens by magnification (\(30 \div 8\)), the exit pupil delivers a 3.75mm shaft of light to your eyes. This provides excellent brightness for bright or overcast daytime tracking, though it will dim slightly at twilight.
  • Prism Type: Traditional Porro Prism design (identifiable by the offset, "zig-zag" shape of the barrels). It uses premium internal glass prisms to correct the image upside down.

Excellent condition - the case itself has some wear and tear to it 9/10
