FT-2 with a strap!
The FT-2 (ФТ-2) is a Soviet 35mm panoramic camera produced by KMZ between 1958 and 1965. Designed by Fedor Tokarev, it features a rotating 50mm f/5 Industar-50 lens that sweeps 120° across a curved film plane, producing 12 large 24 x 110mm frames on a standard 35mm roll.
Key Features and Details:
- Design & Build: Often called "Fotoapparat Tokareva" (Tokarev’s camera), it is a sturdy, brick-shaped camera with a simple metal frame viewfinder.
- Optics & Shutter: The Industar-50 lens is fixed-aperture (f/5). Shutter speeds are limited: 1/100, 1/200, and 1/400 seconds.
- Film Handling: The camera requires special, proprietary metal cassettes. You cannot use standard 35mm cassettes directly; film must be re-spooled in the dark.
- Production: Approximately 16,662 units were made.
- Characteristics: It produces very sharp, panoramic images with minimal distortion due to the curved film plane.
