The Soligor Spot Sensor II is a classic, analog spot meter used for film photography and cinematography to measure reflected light from a narrow, 1-degree angle. It was a popular and reliable tool for photographers who needed to control exposure precisely, especially when using the Zone System.
Specifications:
- Analog display: The meter features a needle display in the viewfinder, allowing for precise readings. In contrast to the digital version, the analog needle version does not have a hold feature, so readings must be taken while pressing the button.
- 1° measuring spot: The meter can measure a very narrow 1-degree angle of incidence, allowing the photographer to take readings from a specific, small area of a scene. This was especially useful for compensating for unusually bright or dark backgrounds.
- SPD light sensor: It uses a highly sensitive Silicon Photo Diode (SPD) sensor, making it more accurate in low light compared to meters with older Cadmium Sulphide (CdS) cells.
- Wide metering range: The meter offers a wide measuring range of EV 2–18 at ISO 100. It has two click-stop positions on the trigger for high ("H") and low ("L") light readings, switching between different scales visible in the viewfinder.
